Knee pads are very comfortable to wear if you need them. It's easy for your knees to hit the ground if you fall. Thicker pads are better at absorbing heavy impacts on epic falls, while thinner ones counteract the nice scrapes you can get when you let your knees slide on the asphalt for a short while.
